This year promises so much with a number of new innovations to the learning programs at St Francis. Firstly, the five Catholic Primary Schools in the Eastern region of Adelaide are sharing in a new venture aptly named the Eastern Star Project. In brief, the goal for all five schools will be improved outcomes in literacy, numeracy and student well-being. The aim of the Eastern Star project is to provide a pathway for development in these three key areas with the injection of financial and human resources, quality professional learning and in school coaching for staff. More details will be shared about this as the year unfolds.

Secondly, we are introducing a new timetable for all classes that will place a strong focus on uninterrupted teaching and learning in the areas of literacy and numeracy during the first block of the school day from 9-11am. Being at school on time to start the day will become even more important for all students as this quality learning time will commence as soon as the day begins, supported with extra staffing in classrooms to maximise opportunities for the students. Please make every attempt to have your child at school on time in order for them to reap the full benefit of this initiative.

Thirdly, we are aiming to provide extra resources in the Reception-Yr.2 classrooms to develop a range of early intervention strategies designed to ensure that all students in these foundational years reach their  absolute optimal level of learning. We are looking at a range of initiatives, including speech pathology, coordination program, transition to Reception program and teaching strategies to support this process.

Communication in schools is critical and we are always looking for better communication pathways. This year, in the pack containing your fees statement you would have received a copy of the communication protocols. We are making every attempt this year to be consistent in the manner of our communication process. Please take time to look through this document which will be very helpful for all staff and families moving forward this year to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

In closing, I’m excited about all this year offers. Everything is set for a fantastic year of learning. By working in partnership we can certainly achieve this. I look forward to our journey.
