Welcome to Term 2. With a short week upon return this is our first newsletter for the term. The staff were very busy during the school break undertaking first aid training and some Professional Learning in the area of Assessment and Moderation. If you have a connection to our Facebook page you would have seen photos of these activities. The staff have been actively engaged in many forms of learning over the last 5 school terms in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing. We are confident that this work will provide a great support for your children in their learning journey and help them reach their full potential.
Next week our Year 3 & 5 children will participate in the NAPLAN testing process so it is important children arrive to school on time, after a good breakfast and are feeling calm and ready to participate in the testing process. The best support you can provide is a calm, positive approach with no great or extra emphasis on the importance of NAPLAN. The children will take this in their stride and with this calm, matter of fact approach and this will be the best support you can provide.
This week marks 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia and today we celebrated this with a liturgy and morning tea for students and families. We were pleased to be able to have some special guests attend, including former principals, staff, the secular Franciscans, members of the School Board and Parish Pastoral Council. We are very proud of our school heritage, but equally proud of being able to offer a quality Catholic Education for all children in our care. Take the opportunity to visit the Catholic Education FB page to learn more about our Catholic heritage and traditions. Catholic Education Facebook
Communication is an important tool for schools and having the correct information is critical for all families. In order to be fully connected with our school you do need regularly access some Apps such as QKR, Skoolbag and SeeSaw. The purpose for having these is to ensure that you have access to all relevant school information, can return permission forms for events and are able to make payments through QKR as needed. As an example of this if you want to order a Showdown Doughnut for your child/ren it can only be done via the QKR App and orders close tonight at midnight. There is no other way to place this order so if you cannot access the App you will not be able to secure a doughnut for your child. Please take the time to access this technology. Apart from anything else, we are also contributing to saving the earth as we use far less paper. Your support in using the available technology is appreciated. Please contact the office if you are experiencing difficulty with this and they can certainly help guide you.
A practical matter to be aware of at the beginning of the school day is that our playground is out of bounds for all children, school age and pre-school alike. Unfortunately due to the legalities around duty of care requirements we cannot allow parents to be supervisors of their own children on the play equipment. Your cooperation in keeping your children off the equipment in the mornings and afternoons is appreciated.
Good luck for the Showdown, clearly there will be a winner and while it is ‘Go Crows’ from me I have a strong feeling I may not be singing the song on Saturday evening at around 10pm!
Enjoy your week.
