Welcome to Week 7. I trust you and your family were able to enjoy the extra-long weekend with the glorious weather and range of family events available during Mad March! Adelaide is such a fun place to be around fringe time and we are so blessed to be able to experience this COVID free.
You may have seen the Facebook post on Friday about our staff engaging in professional learning in the study of ‘The Science of Reading’. Bill Hansberry is a local presenter but nationally and internationally recognised for his work in this field. Our staff had an intensive day learning about the science of reading and this work will only enhance the quality of the teaching and learning practices in our school. We were very privileged to have someone of Bill’s calibre to teach us more about contemporary teaching practices and I’m very confident that your children will reap the benefit of days like these as we journey forward. I am most grateful to our School Board who have been so supportive of our need to have student free days to continue professional learning for the benefit of all children in our school community.
There’s plenty of events happening at school to keep us all busy. Last Monday our Yr. 5/6 classes participated in a full day cricket carnival that was full of fun, skills and learning new things. The Yr. 5/6’s have now headed down to Victor Harbor for a two day aquatics camp. The weather has been most helpful and I’m sure the children will come back buzzing with excitement about the new things they experienced, the skills learned and possibly even some new friendships they have made.
We are leading up to Parent/Teacher Interviews in Week 9 of this term. These discussions are a vital part of supporting your child’s learning journey and are critical to the partnership between home and school that needs to be maintained to ensure the best possible outcomes for each and every child in our care. Please make sure you go on-line to book a time this week and secure a meeting to discuss your child’s progress. Our teaching staff have made themselves available on many hours over the week so that all families can have access to these meetings. As a parent I ask that you embrace this opportunity to learn more about your child and continue that vital partnership between home and school.
On March 16th we are hosting the Annual General Meeting of the School Board of St Francis of Assisi School. While this meeting is possibly not high on your agenda in terms of attendance it is important for us to have this meeting to present the summary of our work in 2020. It will only take an hour of your time and I encourage you to attend if you are free. At this meeting we will be electing our new School Board for the 2021school year. Please find attached to this letter a nomination form for anyone interested in supporting the school by your membership on the School Board. There are only 8 meetings across the year and your service to the school community in this way is greatly appreciated. Please fill in the nomination form and return it by Friday if you are interested.
Have a wonderful week!
