Catholic Education South Australia

From the Principal

Welcome to a very different Week One as we return to school for the beginning of Term 2. I could ask you how your holidays were, but they were probably very similar to mine, a lot of time at home with a whole list of jobs completed that you’ve been meaning to get to over the last 12 months but haven’t got around to! One of those jobs for me was cleaning out my cupboards. I found things in them that I didn’t even know I owned!

We all have been challenged by the events of the last 6 weeks and our lives do look a little different than they previously were. Always, in the midst of turmoil there is some good that occurs. I think each of us has had the opportunity to re-connect more deeply with our family and have thought up creative ways to have fun together that previously would never have occurred. As we start slowly to return to a more ‘normal’ way of being, let’s not lose that family connection that has been re-built. Simple things like the family dinner every night at the dining table with no devices in sight so that you can talk and share in a meal together are the small pleasures that mean so much. I know I have played a lot of board games in the last few weeks and I’m ready to take anyone on in a game of Scrabble or Connect 4!

Our schools will return to normal at some stage in the future. In the meantime however, there are a few things that we need to keep in place to ensure we are meeting Catholic Education guidelines and health authority recommendations for the safety of all.

  • Parents are to pick up and drop off children at the school gates only
  • Contact with the office to be made by phone or email-not in person
  • No volunteers will be required for the next few weeks until further notice
  • Families affected by work stand downs or job losses will be supported by the school
  • Please call Jo Sayers (Business Manager) if you need to discuss your family situation
  • Music Tuition programmes will commence from Week 2 or by negotiation
  • Canteen will re-open from Thursday this week
  • Please note all lunch and hot food orders are to be done via QKR – cash for snacks only

Attendance records need to be maintained and we need to mark a roll for all students whether they are at school or learning from home. If your child is going to be absent from school and not participating in remote learning on any given day you need to contact the office as usual to report your child’s absence. Please make every effort to do this.

Please also note that our teachers are doing the best they can to meet the needs of students, at school and at home with remote learning. They are attending to student questions about learning in two formats every day. Teachers will be giving this priority during school hours so they may not respond to parent questions during the day. Please be assured that they will check emails and requests via SeeSaw and get back to you as soon as it is practical to do so. Your patience and understanding with this is appreciated.

In closing, I thank you for your positivity and calmness in these times. Please click on the link to see a message from some of our Catholic Education Principals that really puts this in perspective.

Have a great week!
